Forwarding/ Expressing Opinions

Expressing opinions, supporting them with evidence, and refuting opinions are all functions of higher level speech and writing. In English academic writing we typically avoid including our personal opinions. Arabic academic writing is very similar in this respect. An implicit statement of opinion is typically better for most written assignments. Since assignments and instructor expectations differ, I have included both informal and formal constructions.

Informal

من وجهة نظري from my point of view

بالنسبة لي as far as I'm concerned

أظنّ أنّ I think that

أعتقد أن I believe (firmly) that

في رأيي in my opinion

وهذا رأيي الشخصي and this is my personal opinion

وهذا رأيي الشخصي ومؤمن فيه إيماناً كاملاً and this is my completely believable and personal opinion

Formal

ّيبدو أن it seems/ appears that

يبدو للوهلة الأولى أنّ it seems/ appears at first glance that

يبدو أنه من الصواب أنّ it appears to be true that

بطبيعة الحال يبدو أنّ naturally it appears that

ويكمن القول أنّ it could be said/ argued that

من نافل القول أنّ it goes without saying that

لا يخفى على أحد أنّ It is well known/ generally accepted that

هذا يشير إلى أنّ this suggests/ indicates that

يدعي البعض أنّ some claim that

من السطيحة بمكان أنّ it is superficial to believe that
